Before she was a household name, she and a friend decided to visit the Big Apple. However, because of their flashy looks and big hair, they were mistaken for hookers and thrown out of their hotel.
The two country girls wandered around the city, trying to figure out where to spend the night, when they end up on 42nd street. A man approaches Dolly, attempting to elicit her services.
She tries to rebuff him and finally pulls a gun out of her purse. Conan cracks up at this, surprised at the turn Dolly’s story has taken. She admits that encounter is alluded to in her song “9 to 5.”
Since that night filled with a comedy of errors, Dolly has returned to New York City many times and fallen in love with it. She continues to talk with Conan about her family.
She also talks about how the tabloids seem to be obsessed with her. She is so sweet as she describes the false stories they print. Dolly, we’re obsessed with you too!
