Donkey Smiles From Ear-to-Ear After Being Rescued

When Suzanne Gibbons went down to a river in Killorglin, Ireland, she planned for a relaxing stroll. But shortly after she arrived, she spotted a donkey struggling in the flooded river.

A dog, possibly a Dalmatian, is swimming in water with an orange object in its mouth.

The situation looked grim. Suzanne was a poor swimmer, so she could not swim to the poor creature. Plus, she did not have a boat. Fortunately, Suzanne Gibbons knew people who could help her.

Suzanne was a member of the Animal Heaven Animal Rescue group on Facebook. She posted on the page and reached out to her fellow animal lovers, begging someone to help her rescue the poor donkey.

Shortly after she posted on the page, Mike Fleming of the local rowing club responded and came as quickly as he could. When he arrived, Suzanne knew everything was going to be alright.

"He was my last chance and phone call to beg for a boat," wrote Gibbons. "I knew straight away he had the guts to do it. [He did not have a] negative attitude. [He just said,] "Come on, girl. We’ll give it a go.'”

Mike Fleming rowed into the flooded river and used a life saver to pull the donkey to shore. Once safely onshore, the adorable donkey treated his rescuers with a big smile.

After a quick examination from the vet, the rescuers concluded that the cheerful donkey would be alright. With his health assured, Mike and Suzanne returned the donkey to his loving home.
