The hit series’ WKRP in Cincinnati’ captivated audiences as a sitcom built on a behind-the-scenes look at the daily lives of disc jockeys. At the time, most radio DJs were similar to rock stars due to their popularity.

One of the standout characters on WKRP was ‘Dr. Johnny Fever,’ played by the legendary Howard Hesseman. As the clip begins, he’s in the DJ booth, wearing a hooded zip-up sweatshirt, barely zipped, revealing his bare chest. Dr. Johnny is also donning his signature shades.
While he is spinning records, Johnny Fever decides to speak his mind. He finishes playing the song, ‘Another One Bites the Dust,’ by Queen. It is obvious that Johnny isn’t fond of the song.

The song ends, and he sighs, ‘And not a moment too soon either, babies.’ He continues, ‘That was Queen with their big hit, one that I never particularly cared for, but nevertheless forced to play here on WKRP.’
He goes on to say he’s just doing his job, following the orders of Venus Flytrap, who is doing Andy Travis’ job. At the same time, Andy fills in for Herb Tarlek, who’s not doing his job! It’s a great rant, especially if you’ve ever been in a short-staffed workplace.

‘WKRP in Cincinnati’ ran from 1978 to 1982 and was enjoyed in subsequent years by the constant re-runs played through the 80s. The show was created by Hugh Wilson, who used his career working at a radio station for inspiration.
‘Dr. Johnny Fever’ was one of the show’s favorite characters. The wild, over-the-top characters endeared themselves to viewers through this workplace comedy. The classic show is still funny after all these years!
