In 1963, the fantastic voice of Eydie Gormé graced the stage at ‘The Ed Sullivan Show.’ She sang a medley of two hits, ‘I’m Always Chasing Rainbows’ and ‘Bye Blackbird.’

This black and white footage shows Eydie dressed in a stunning evening gown with a sequined top and sheer scarf. She stands in front of four lattice fence panels with large flowers attached to them.

She begins with the solemn ‘I’m Always Chasing Rainbows’ accompanied by strings from the orchestra. She looks forlorn and delivers great emotion as if she’s in a Broadway musical.

She has tremendous control of her vocal technique. Eydie lifts the audience’s spirit with her delivery. The song’s mood starts to lighten with additional instruments giving it a jazzy 2nd verse.

A brief interlude with only piano and Eydie leads to song 2 of the medley, ‘Bye Blackbird.’ The beat picks up speed on Eydie’s cue as she snaps her fingers in rhythm and gives a huge smile.

The hi-hat sets a new mood and brings in the big band style. Eydie comes alive, moving her arms and body while belting out the lyrics. At one point, she claps and even slaps her hips with her hands in excitement.

Eydie points and moves along with the band’s horn hits, adding to the intensity as she brings it home. Her arms outstretched as she hits a high closing note over the band’s big ending. The audience roars with applause!
