Fonzie’s Motorcycle: A Cool Look Back at ‘Happy Days’

Happy Days

There are certain TV characters that have an inseparable bond with their co-stars. The show ‘Happy Days’ had Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli, better known as ‘The Fonz,’ and his beloved motorcycle. His legendary TV persona, played by Henry Winkler, was the epitome of cool.

Happy Days

In one clip, Fonzie stands by his cool bike and says, “Hi, Lois.” She hops on the back of his motorcycle and says, “This is gonna be fun!” The Fonz gets on the front of the bike and replies, “It ain’t gonna be that much fun!”

Another great moment involves a group of teens in an auto repair show. They ask The Fonz if the bike between them is nice. Fonzie replies, “First of all, bikes are not nice. They’re cool. Second of all, you wanna be a big leaguer. You talk like the big leagues.”

Sometimes, Fonzie’s bike wouldn’t start like when he was outside of ‘Arnold’s’ and had to kick it a few times with his leg to get it going. The Fonz is also seen riding around a course while people watch him do stunts. He stops in the middle of the crowd, revs his engine, and raises his hand as everyone cheers for him.

In another excellent bike moment, Fonz walks into his apartment with Richie and Howard Cunningham, who admire the space. Fonz has his bike parked right in the living room. Fonz says, “The bike likes it!” Howard asks, “Do you always park your bike in the apartment?” Fonz tells him that he only does it during inclement weather so the bike can stay warm.

The Fonz occasionally ran into trouble with his bike. He tells Richie and Potsie that he was sideswiped by a hit-and-run waitress. Then, there are the famous stunt scenes where he pops a wheelie, jumps over a line of barrels, and eventually crashes into Arnold’s fried chicken stand!

The Fonz loved his motorcycle to an extreme. Fonzie got upset with anyone who said, “It’s just a motorcycle!” Like when he said to Mr. C, “Just a motorcycle, Mr. C?! And I suppose your mother was just a mother!” The Fonz and his motorcycle are two characters that put the cool in ‘Happy Days.’
