Friendly Shark Swims Up To Divers Every Day Demanding A Good Pet. I Can’t Believe It!

Sharks have gotten a bad rap over the years. Movies like Jaws and Open Water have increased fear of these marine animals. While people do get bit by sharks every year, the attacks are overwhelmingly non aggressive.

In fact, sharks can be social and friendly, as the video below shows. Randy Jordan, a scuba diving guide that works off the coast of Jupiter, Florida, has developed a friendship with a group of local sharks.

Jordan takes groups of divers down nearly every day. Without fail, the sharks swim up to greet him. One in particular, an 8 foot lemon shark named Blondie, seems to have taken a shine to him.

“She recognizes me as soon as I go in the water and runs over to me. It almost looks like she’s smiling. She doesn’t want food, she just wants to be petted,” Jordan said. “If you don’t give her the attention, she’ll bump into you. You have to attend to her. That’s just the way she is. It is strange.”

Jordan thinks it may be similar to why cats like being petted. Sharks have a nerve center under their snout. When stimulated, it put them into a semi-catatonic state. Sound pretty relaxing to us!
