Patty Robinson looked out of her kitchen window when she saw this baby squirrel lying on her lawn (later named Bunk). When she touched the little one, he just flinched. The kind woman picked him up and walked around the property for 45 minutes looking for his family, but she could not find anything.
When Patty saw the baby squirrel closely, she saw his eyes were closed, but Bunk melted in the warmth of her hands. Unfortunately, she did not find any rehabbers, so she raised him wild. The kind woman had every intention of letting Bunk go free.
Patty learned everything about what a squirrel ate by looking at the other squirrels near her house. Soon, it was nine months and time for Bunk to move into the wild. He was gone for five days, and on the sixth day, he returned.
Bunk was shaking uncontrollably. When Patty held him in her arms, he was growling. She tried three more times to let him go, but he wouldn’t leave. He was happy with her. Unfortunately, when he was three years old, he injured his paw. Even Patty got sick around the same time.
It was strange. Patty believed that the two of them healed each other. There was this bond that was created between them. She was an artist and a builder and told Bunk that she would make one for him inside her house if he couldn’t be in the trees.
Patty built him a treehouse, which was all interlocked. The room had his favorite wood. Bunk had the most oversized room in the house, with eight sliding glass windows and cathedral ceilings. The squirrel could run around the entire room without touching the floor safely. Patty even put mesh fencing and opened the sliding doors so that he could get fresh air and hear the birds.
Patty came from a place where squirrels did not have a good life. She was always told that they were tree rats and were no good. However, after being with Bunk, she knew how intelligent the animals were. Bunk loved to snuggle with his owner like a baby. Patty never imagined squirrels had so much personality. The kind woman had dedicated her life to her pet and couldn’t imagine her life without him.
