George Jones, nicknamed ‘The Possum’, had a unique singing style that contributed to his success, making his songs recognizable for years to come. His 1980 release “He Stopped Loving Her Today” may have been his biggest hit, earning him countless awards.

Jones was hospitalized in March of 2012 for a respiratory infection. Though he was released shortly after, he found himself going right back in a couple months later when the infection resurface. Not long after his second release, Jones announced a farewell tour, ending November 22nd, 2013.

Unfortunately, Jones didn’t make it all the way to the end of his tour. In April, Jones went onstage for a performance at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. It would be his last.

Fans describe his final concert as “a heroic show” and “a testimony to the man’s love for his fans and his music”. He passed away less than two weeks later, but his memory will live on forever.
