It seems The Voice Kids has spin-offs in just about every country. Germany is one of those countries. In this video audition, thirteen-year-old Karel Zingt from Germany nervously stands in front of the crowd and judges. He has a surprising song choice.
Dressed in classic 50s-era clothes, Karel channels his inner Elvis Presley and performs the classic, hit single “Jailhouse Rock.” When Elvis Presley released “Jailhouse Rock” in 1956, it quickly became number one on the U.S. Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart and also grew chart-topping in the UK, Australia, Belgium, and Finland. People all over the world fell in love with this song.
His song choice surprises the judges, but they are anything but disappointed once they hear Karel start to sing. Backstage, friends and family start dancing along with the song – one of them even shows off his version of Elvis’ famous leg shakes. The crowd is soon cheering and clapping together as well.
Nearly in unison, all the judges hit their red buttons and turn their chairs to face Karel. This excites the crowd even more, and the applause gets louder. It must have been so hard for the teen to hold his composure when all the judges hit their buttons!
Karel hits his stride halfway through the song and becomes more comfortable performing on stage. Even though his voice is still clearly young, the similarities to the “King’s”sound is impressive. He also puts a slight growl in his voice at times throughout the song.
As the song draws to a close, the audience, along with the coaches, cheer on the young Elvis. At times, the judges even sing or dance along. Everyone was enjoying themselves. Only time will tell what is in store for this young rock star.
