He had performed live on The Ed Sullivan Show on June 14th, 1964, on three different songs, My Kind of Town (Manhattan), What Kind of Fool Am I, and Night Song.

Sammy Davis Jr. was one of the most talented artists who succeeded in all aspects of show business. He could sing, act, dance, and entertain people. His smooth vinyl voice impressed everyone.

Sammy’s live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show proved that he was a multi talented artist, performing 3 fantastic songs. My Kind of Town (Manhattan) was inspired by Robin and the 7 Hoods with the same song name. But instead of Manhattan, it had the Chicago version.

The other song he chose to perform on was, ‘Night Song,’ with lyrics by Lee Adams. The music was made by Charles Strouse for the 1964 musical Golden Boy. Again, he knew how to create anticipation from the audience and, of course, deliver a finale that satisfied the expectation.

The other song Sammy performed was, ‘What Kind of Fool Am I.’ The song was from his 1962 studio album, What Kind of Fool Am I and Other Show-Stoppers. But again, Sammy knew how to develop a song’s narrative and mastered it.

Sammy’s smooth voice with the talented musicians equaled perfection. He would always be the Golden Boy of the ’50s and the ’60s. Even Ed Sullivan did understand that he had invited one of the most talented & humble gentlemen on his show and greeted him after the performance was over.
