Gomer Pyle Gives Barney Fife a Taste of His Own Medicine on 'Andy Griffith'

‘The Andy Griffith Show’ always had America laughing with great characters like Barney Fife and Gomer Pyle. In a funny episode, Gomer performs a citizen’s arrest on Barney!

Barney Fife stops Gomer for making an illegal u-turn. Barney explains that his job is to stop these crimes before things get carried away. Barney even mentions that if he was a common citizen, he’d have to make a citizen’s arrest.

Barney assures Gomer, saying, ‘We’re all working towards the same cause.’ Barney gives Gomer the ticket and pulls away in his police car. He makes a u-turn, and Gomer starts yelling, ‘Citizen’s arrest’ repeatedly.

A crowd gathers, shouting ‘Hooray!’ They argue until Andy shows up and asks what is happening. Barney says, ‘This boob came running over yelling ‘Citizen’s arrest, citizen’s arrest!’

Andy asks why and they tell him Barney made the illegal u-turn. Andy pulls Barney aside and tells him to write himself a ticket to save himself embarrassment.

Barney says, ‘I’ll get you for this, Gomer!’ Andy makes him write out the ticket while Barney grumbles angrily, taking out his pen. It is an excellent example of the wonderful comedic acting and timing between these great stars.

‘The Andy Griffith Show’ ran from 1960 to 1968 with 249 episodes. Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, and Jim Nabors did a fantastic job in this hysterical scene where Barney gets a taste of his own medicine!
