Living far away from family can be hard. It can be even more difficult when you are a grandparent because you know that every moment you spend with them is so very precious and so limited. Sharing and cherishing new memories with your grandchildren is one of the greatest gifts that you can give them, and it is also one of the most important ways to show your love for them.
When Martin Brown’s mother-in-law wanted to be able to live closer to the family but wasn’t sure how it could be done, he had a brilliant idea. Martin decided that he would personally renovate the family’s garage into an apartment for the grandmother to move into. This space wouldn’t be just a guest room; it would be a full living space, complete with everything you would find in a traditional apartment.
At first glance, the space looks far too small to be a full apartment, but thanks to the emergence of a “tiny homes” movement, there has been a lot more thought, as well as resources, explaining how to make a small space seem far bigger than it really is.
In this video, we can see the incredible techniques that Martin used to be able to turn what was once a garage into an absolutely stunning and complete living space. It ranges from the more practical elements like where the dishes are kept to visual techniques that provide peace, calm, and the illusion of space.
