Grief-Stricken Willie Nelson Pays Tribute To Merle Haggard’s Life And Music. I’m Crying!

A few months ago, country music icon Merle Haggard passed away after a long battle with double pneumonia and other health ailments. Haggard’s longtime friend, collaborator, and fellow country music star, Willie Nelson, went to social media not long after his passing to honor Haggard.

Nelson has worked with Haggard on numerous projects. The most recent, their duo album Django & Jimmie, debuted in July 2015. It quickly soared to number one in the Billboard Country charts. That album marked the sixth collaboration between these artists.

Nelson posted a photo of him laughing with Merle Haggard, along with a simple caption and a link to the video for their song “Pancho & Lefty”.

The news of Haggard’s death hit the country community hard. Nelson was not the only star who made public their feelings of loss after Haggard’s death. Numerous stars posted to social media, and several more gave tribute performances of one kind or another.

Legendary Dolly Parton said this of Haggard: “We’ve lost one of the greatest writers and singers of all time. His heart was as tender as his love ballads. I loved him like a brother. Rest easy, Merle.” And Tim McGraw gave a touching performance of “Working Man Blues”.
