Hand feeding wild birds can be peaceful — and wonderfully funny

The intimate look at these birds is amazing, but their expressions are hilarious.

We hardly ever get to see up-close-and-personal shots of wild birds. Few have the patience, and most birds are skittish around humans. However, Jocelyn Anderson Photography shows us that wild birds can be won over with a little bit of patience.

Her Youtube channel is full of videos of her hand-feeding wild birds, describing the different types of birds that come to see her, and delivering on their antics.

Today, she is visited by a Downy Woodpecker. He lands first (a male, as you can see by the red patch on his head), and cautiously pokes around in the nuts and buries that Jocelyn offers.

After a few moments, a larger Mourning Dove comes to land on the other side of her hand and immediately starts eating. The woodpecker seems to look almost grumpy, watching the dove as she eats.

The way the Downy Woodpecker watches the dove eat (and the way the dove is entirely unfazed) makes this one of the most interesting, intimate looks at wild birds in a while.
