This latest William dynasty superstar sure knows how to keep the name running. Sam Williams, the grandson, made his debut performance at the Grand Opry. Even though he was born many years after his grandfather passes, the family line remains unmistakable.
In his interview, he says the debut performance gives him a strong sense of validation. In his words, “for me, having my debut at the Grand Opry means I’m doing the right thing.” Not every musician is always comfortable in their skin and personality. But for Sam, he’s been true to himself. And that’s why this performance means so much to him.
His family also shared their warmest thoughts about Sam. his stepsister, Holly Williams, recognizes her brother’s uniqueness. She says, “he’s in touch with gentleness, and that’s why his songs can relate with men and women universally.”

Sam has always had a critique for a father, Hank Williams Jnr; Sam’s father was very hard to please. And he also acknowledged that in the interview. But having a son who rose to carry the family name to this generation, he couldn’t be more proud. It’s safe to say, a lot of bonding happened that day. Watching your child receive a standing ovation from such a large audience has a way of melting a hard heart.
For his debut performance, Sam sang one of his originals, “Can’t fool your own blood.” it talks about how as humans, we often lie to the ones we love the most and vice versa. “It’s a human condition,” he says. And this is present in almost everyone’s lives. He co-writes this piece with Mary Gauthier, another singer-songwriter with nothing but love for him.
He briefly reminisces of how the presence of his grandfather at the Opry gave him chills. One of his major highlights was seeing an old suit of his grandad he had never seen before. No doubt, the thought of his presence at the Opry was both heavy and warm at the same time.
With a voice as calm as his, Sam begins his performance. And on his finishing, the whole crowd roared with laughter and deemed him worthy to stand for. You could see the sheer shock on his face, but with great excitement and appreciation. His joy knew no bounds, and he hopes to perform for them again with his last greetings.
