This Heartbroken Bird Can’t Seem To Accept That His Friend Is Actually Gone. I’m Crying!

There is still some debate over whether animals can experience emotions at all like humans. Many people claim they are unable to feel what we feel, but anyone who’s spent much time with an animal is likely to disagree.

All it takes is a quick search on the internet and you can find countless videos of animals displaying a whole range of emotions. From joy to anger to sadness, it seems there’s nothing they can’t feel. The video below shows one little birdy’s heartbreaking experience with grief.

The bird in the video is mourning the passing of his fellow bird friend. As the animal’s owner is preparing to lay the bird to rest, his friend stays close by, occasionally nudging the body as if hoping he’ll just wake up.

It seems that the bird is unable to accept that his friend is gone. If you’ve ever lost someone, I’m sure you can relate. Denial is a huge part of the grieving process, and one that even animals can experience.

“There is no doubt that many animals experience rich and deep emotions,” writes animal behaviorist Dr. Mark Bekoff in Psychology Today. “It’s not a matter of if emotions have evolved in animals but why they have evolved as they have. We must never forget that our emotions are the gifts of our ancestors, our animal kin. We have feelings and so do other animals. Among the different emotions that animals display clearly and unambiguously is grief.”
