When they left their mother Hope at Berea Gardens Retirement Foundation Lily Kirchmann home in East London, the Shepherd family was expecting her to be cared for by professionals. What a hidden camera caught the elderly woman enduring at the hands of her caregivers is room unearthed is horrific. The footage shows her caretaker Ncendiswa Mkencele abusing her by slapping, punching, and kicking her.
According to her family, 84 year old Hope suffers from dementia. The family says that there have been complaints against Hope from the staff, claiming she has attacked them. Ncendiswa says she is sorry for her actions, but she also claims that Hope provoked her by throwing feces in her face and also using racial slurs against her. Ncendiswa was fired from the job and could possibly face criminal charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
