High School Senior Gives Valentine’s Day Flowers to All 834 Girls at His School

A high school boy with a heart of gold made Valentine’s season a little sweeter for over 800 girls at his school by giving each of them a carnation for the special day. This is a story you don’t want to miss.

Smithfield resident Hayden Godfrey, 17, saved for a year and a half to pay for the $450 it cost to buy 834 carnations from an online flower wholesaler. He worked at a McDonald’s, a Mexican restaurant, and a grocery store for more than a year to be able to afford the $450 it cost to purchase all the flowers.

Godfrey enlisted 20 good friends to assist him in preparing the flowers and handing them out to the 834 girls in the school on Thursday afternoon. The huge gesture arose from years of accumulation and preparation. “Back in middle school, I saw a lot of girls go home on Valentine’s Day without stuff,” he said. “I wanted to make a difference.”

Every Valentine’s Day since he was 14, Godfrey would anonymously send flowers to dozens of his pals, he stated. Each year, the project grew larger in scale until he eventually decided he wanted to make “as lots of people as possible” pleased this Valentine’s Day.

“The vice-principal told me that in all his years of teaching, he’d never seen anything like it,” Godfrey said. “I don’t think anything can compare to seeing every girl in your life holding a flower as they walk through the halls,” he wrote on Facebook. This has to be the nicest teenage boy I have come across; what a sweet and lovely gesture.
