The marvelous harmonies of the five-member group, “Home Free”, have been thrilling audiences since their 2013 win of $100,000 and a recording contract on the talent show, ‘The Sing-Off.’
The group’s unique a capella sound has proven very popular, and their stunning New Year’s Eve song, “Auld Lang Syne” was released just in time for 2019. This soul-stirring arrangement is touching hearts everywhere.
Singing in perfect harmony, Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Adam Chance, Adam Rupp, and Tim Foust blend their voices beautifully to deliver this Christmas classic. It is no wonder that this incredible group of vocalists has been successfully performing right around the world, to a rapidly expanding fan base.
The emotionally-charged, nostalgic ballad is attributed to a poem written in the Scottish language by the great Scottish poet, Robbie Burns in 1788. However, the words are in fact more of a compilation formalized by Burns from various earlier works by others, and even the melody is considered to be a mashup of various tunes from traditional folk songs.
The translation of the Scottish name is thought to be, “old long since” or more loosely, “for the sake of old times”.
In Scotland, the tune was traditionally sung by a gathering of revelers at midnight on New Year’s Eve, to bid farewell to the old year and welcome in the New Year. It serves to remember long-standing friendships.
The song spread throughout the United Kingdom where it was readily adopted, and as the Scots emigrated further round the world, they took the tradition with them.
