Honest kids jump through hoops to return lost wallet with $700 cash

Three children surprised the owner of a lost wallet when they returned it with $700 still in the wallet. Without any witnesses during the time of the discovery, it could’ve been easy pocket money for the youngsters.

The 13-year-old Haylie Wenke was out biking with her younger brother, Raegen, and their friend Ashley Dayton on a hot summer’s day. After cooling off at the splash pad in the park, they noticed something suspicious on their way back.

Underneath a car parked in the driveway, they saw something strange. Upon closer inspection, they realized that it was a wallet with cash in it. Nobody was around when they found it, and they could easily have pocketed the money if they wanted to.

Instead of speeding off to the nearest ice cream stand to start spending their illegal loot, the honest trio decided to do the right thing and hand the wallet back instead. That was when another obstacle challenged the children’s honest endeavor.

When they arrived at the door of the owner, they realized that he was not home. In the video, the honest and well-mannered children are seen leaving the wallet in a secure spot close to the front door. They even said thank you before leaving.

The wallet’s owner returned later and was delighted and humbled by the children’s act of kindness. He posted the doorbell video online and received many responses and praises for the three heroes. The children were unaware that he had done that.

Haylie stated that she doesn’t understand why everybody is making such a ‘big deal’ out of doing the right thing. She also admitted that it could’ve been a different story if other kids found the wallet first.

“Not very many kids our age would give back a wallet full of money.” The owner agreed and was exploring ways to reward the heroic act of these honest children.
