Auditioning for “Britain’s Got Talent” wasn’t just about the “yes” votes for Imen Siar. The 20-year-old waitress was more interested in proving herself to her father and offering inspiration to young Muslim girls in her community.
Imen walked onto the stage in a headscarf, a very intentional decision by the young pop singer. “I started wearing my headscarf at the age of 11,” she said backstage. “I decided that I want it to be my turban, my headscarf, my hijab, my crown.” She said she wants to inspire other young Muslim girls in her community.
But Imen’s performance was also something to remember. She delivered an emotional and inspirational rendition of Alessia Cara’s “Scars to Your Beautiful,” again targeting young women in need of a positive influence.
The judges loved the way she stripped down the song and made it her own. They also loved her humility and radiant presence and said they were excited to hear more. Imen sailed through with four yes votes.
