You may have experienced an unlikely friendship in your lifetime. If you’ve ever spent a long time away from someone you love, you know how quickly it takes to miss somebody. An elephant and a dog become best friends and get split up, only to be reunited weeks later.
Sick and elderly female elephants live the rest of their days at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. Each elephant is given a companion during their time there. Tara, a 35-year-old floppy-eared elephant, became friends with Bella, a dog.
At one point, Bella was injured and had to spend some time away from other animals, so she could properly heal. Tara loved her best friend so much; she waited outside the treatment center until Bella was able to come out and play again.
Three weeks later, Bella was healthy and ready to get back to her normal life. Her best buddy was there waiting for her the second she was able to come outside again. Tara and the other elephants get to enjoy over 1800-acres where they can roam with their companions, just like they would in the wild.
