Glass block, also known as Glass brick, is an architectural element made from glass. The appearance of glass blocks could vary in color, size, texture, and form. The modern glass block was developed from pre-existing prism lighting principles in the early 1900s to provide natural light in manufacturing plants. Today, glass blocks are used in walls, skylights, and sidewalk lights, and every 80s home seemed to feature this design element.

The 80s also featured Honey Oak Cabinets. The popular finish was in every 80s kitchen, and the wood texture and coloring defined kitchen life during the decade. This design can be seen in every 80s sitcom in its wooden glory.

The 80s also featured ‘Memphis Design,’ which was an Italian design and architecture group active from 1980 to 1987. The group designed post-modern furniture, lighting, fabrics, carpets, ceramics, glass, and metal objects. The Memphis group’s work often incorporated plastic laminate and terrazzo materials and was characterized by colorful and abstract decoration and asymmetrical shapes. It became the look of the 80s home.

No 1980s home was complete without an awesome entertainment center. The stereo console featuring a tape deck, AM/FM radio, and record changer was housed in its own separate cabinet. This was the hub of entertainment for the entire 80s household.

If you wanted privacy while partying with your entertainment center, you would close the ‘Venetian Blinds.’ The 80s window blind was made from overlapping horizontal slats made of plastic, typically lowered and drawn together by pulling a cord. Venetian blinds were widely adopted in office buildings to regulate light and air.
