Irish Group’s Unique “Cotton-Eyed Joe” Performance

If you’ve ever been to a wedding or a middle school dance, you’ve likely heard the song “Cotton-Eyed Joe” by the Rednex. You may not hear it on the radio today, but a group of young dancers wanted to add some flare to the tune.

Students from Maguire Academy of Irish Dance in Dallas, Texas performed at the North Texas Irish Festival by dancing along to this song. Something that shocked the audience was that the group didn’t do a country music dance, instead, they performed an Irish jig.

As soon as the first girl started tapping away, the audience cheered and clapped along to the tempo. One by one, each of the students had their chance in the spotlight during the competition. Show us that not everything is what you think it is.

That wasn’t the last surprise the group had for the audience either. In the middle of the song, it switched to the viral hit “Gangnam Style” by Psy. Now with sunglasses on and even more energy than before, these students from Texas had the whole room on their feet.
