Picture this: It’s yesteryear. You’re walking down Main Street with your mom, and there it is! The iconic red storefront with the golden or white J.J. Newberry logo spread across it. You can’t help but feel the excitement building up as you step inside, ready to explore the magical world of five-and-dime shopping.

The formula was simple, but it worked like a charm. Low prices for dry goods, toys, and candy for us kids, and fabric and craft items for the grown-ups. And who could forget the lunch counter? A milkshake at J.J. Newberry was just heavenly!
The Newberry chain had humble beginnings in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, back in 1911. But by the 1960s, they were retail powerhouses, with around 600 stores and yearly sales of nearly $300 million. They even gave the big guys like Woolworth and S.S. Kresge a run for their money.

Sadly, like all good things, J.J. Newberry came to an end. The last store closed its doors in 2001. But the memories we shared in those aisles will always be with us, right? The scent of the candies, the sound of the cash register, and the laughter that filled the air as we found something that made our eyes light up.

Why don’t you grab a cup of your favorite beverage, sit back, and take a trip down memory lane with this video? You’ll be grinning from ear to ear, reminiscing about the good times you had at J.J. Newberry. And who knows? Maybe you’ll feel inspired to share this treasure with your friends because nostalgia is best enjoyed together!
