‘America’s Got Talent’ audience just witnessed the beauty of Socratic paradox, “I know that I know nothing,” at work when Simon Cowell famously said: “that is my worst song in the world.”

A high-flying statement he had to retract just minutes later aimed at a song selection before the beginning of an audition by singer Jimmie Herrod from Portland, who, luckily for him, stood ground and performed the song regardless.

With the sound of the first chord of the beautiful ballade ‘Tomorrow’ from musical Annie, Harrod seemed to gather his cool, despite Cowell’s distracting statement and his open nervousness.

His astonishingly unique vocal characteristics grasped the room's attention with its gentleness and emotion, which suddenly build up into a big-throated voice that took everyone by surprise.

A golden buzzer for shy Jimmie Herrod with superb ‘Tomorrow’ rendition

Harrod’s perfect theatrical interpretation and unflawed command of the voice was a massive hit with the audience and three judges who stood to applaud. Cowell was amongst them.

“Wow, wow, wow. This isn’t my worst song anymore,” Cowell exhaled in shock and awe of Harrod’s interpretation while turning to Sofía Vergara, who was the only one left seated, for further comments

“I didn’t like it that much,” Vergara said. The salvo of booing and amazement at her statement went around the room. “But,” she continued, “but, I loved it,” while pressing the well-deserved Golden Buzzer.
