Joey Martin Feek Dies After Harrowing Battle With Cervical Cancer, But Her Memory Lives On

Country music star Joey Martin Feek has died at the age of 40 after a long, courageous battle with cervical cancer. Joey succumbed to cancer just two weeks after seeing her beloved daughter turn two years old.

In a candid and moving blog post, Joey’s husband Rory shares that her pain and struggle had become too immense. Her goal was to see her daughter turn two, but after that milestone she decided it was time to stop fighting.

In her last hours, Joey gathered her family around her and said a few words to each of them, before drifting into sleep. She passed peacefully in the afternoon, surrounded by those who loved her most.

Rory’s post is a touching tribute to his beloved wife, with whom he shared almost 14 years of marriage. “When a person has been through as much pain and struggle as Joey’s been through, you just want it to be over.  You want them to not have to hurt anymore, more that you want them to stay with you.  And so, it makes the hard job of saying goodbye just a little easier.”

The two were part of a duet, Joey+Rory, and together released eight albums. In 2014 Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer, shortly after the birth of their daughter Indiana, who was born with Down’s Syndrome.

The cancer progressed rapidly, despite aggressive treatment, and left Joey weak and exhausted. About a year after the initial diagnosis they discovered the cancer was terminal, and chose to end treatment so she could spend her remaining days with her family.
