John Fogerty’s classic MTV performance ‘The Old Man Down the Road’

John Fogerty had a successful solo career over the years. One of his big hits was ‘The Old Man Down the Road.’ John’s performance video of this song is very interesting. In the beginning, we see John dressed in wilderness gear. He reveals a guitar amplifier sitting in the woods, and the cord attached to it runs along the ground.

The camera follows the cord through various scenes. The first is two young kids racing a boxcar over the cable. Then, the cable runs through a romantic outdoor picnic scene and flows into a limousine sunroof with a fancy lady on the phone.

After the camera is chased by a barking dog, it speeds up and runs under a broken-down pickup with a cheerleader standing at a payphone, making a call when two motorcycles pull up.

We see Fogerty again, walking along the road, dressed in black. A woman and a baby carriage are shown, followed by a grave digger. Then it appears that some ghosts are dancing in the street.

A man and his dog sit on the porch overlooking John, who is plugged into the chord. He stands in the middle of the road, strumming his guitar. Finally, the most extended guitar cord ever is revealed to be plugged into John’s own guitar!

John was one of the founders of ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival,’ which had nine top-10 singles and eight gold albums from 1968 to 1972. ‘CCR’ was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. John continued his career with solo success and landed on ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine’s list of 100 greatest songwriters at number 40.

John Fogerty’s awesome performance of ‘The Old Man Down the Road’ leads us to him playing incredible electric guitar. John is an American music legend, and his hits span decades of success!
