America’s Got Talent is full of surprises, but no act shocked the judges more than John Hetlinger’s performance. The 82-year-old took the stage and announced he would be singing a song.

The judges and the audience probably assumed that he would pick a tune by Bing Crosby or Frank Sinatra, but Hetlinger went in a different direction. Instead, the retired engineer chose a song by Drowning Pool.

As he started singing “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor,” the judges’ jaws dropped. The audience was stunned, but then quickly recovered. They jumped up and began cheering for Hetlinger.

His act was so startling that Heidi didn’t know what to do. She assumed everyone had gone mad and gave Hetlinger a “no” when it came time to give her vote.

Mel B and Howie gave Hetlinger an automatic “yes.” They were so impressed with his performance that they were almost speechless. Then it was Simon’s turn to vote. He hemmed and hawed.

The audience was screaming for him to push Hetlinger through to the next round. Just as it seemed like Simon was going to side with Heidi, he turned it around and gave Hetlinger his final “yes.”

The octogenarian was so excited that he started jumping up and down wildly and shouting with glee. The crowd went wild. Simon just laughed as Heidi shook her head in disbelief.
