Hearts melt when Johnny Carson gets a hug from a baby orangutan

Johnny Carson was, and still is, hailed as one of the best talk show hosts ever to have graced the set of The Tonight Show.

In this video, we see how he handled the exotic animals featured during the famous animal segments.

This segment begins with a Great Hornbill, the largest found in tropical forests around the Indian Subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. Johnny and Joandiscuss some interesting facts about the bird, such as becoming endangered due to habitat destruction.

But the stars of the show were undoubtedly the two baby orangutans that Joan brought out next. The brother and sister are one of only a few pairs of twin orangutans ever recorded. They were brought out in a baby stroller, wearing the most adorable baby outfits to match.

Joan hands the boy, named Locke, over to Carson, and the little guy immediately puts his little arms around Carson’s neck to give him a big hug.

Ed McMahon, sitting on the couch on the other side of Joan, got to hold Lisa, who looked up at him with the cutest baby eyes ever.

Both hosts noticed how strong these two 5-month-olds were, especially when Locke grabbed hold of Carson’s hair on the back of his neck. All in all, this was a hilarious and heartwarming segment.
