Phil plays the grand piano on the stage while wearing a gray suit. He has an acoustic guitarist accompany him. The song starts with only Phil, and in the second verse, the guitar comes in to add to the texture.

Phil performs his hit song ‘Against All Odds.’ The background of the stage is the city skyline that’s blue and purple. Phil goes into his falsetto range on the song’s chorus.

After the performance, he talks with Johnny, who asks when Phil arrived in the country. Phil said in 1972, and he’s wanted to be on Johnny’s show ever since. Johnny says they played his show in England, and they were not “...as you say, a big smash.”

They talk about how Phil was nominated for an Academy Award for his song. Johnny asked if it bothers Phil when people don’t offer him the chance to do his song on the show.

Phil says no because he gets enough showtime in London, and he doesn’t consider it anything more than “Water under the bridge.” Phil says he doesn’t want to compromise for those shows either because he wants to be him, saying, “I want to be me, and me is this.”

After the interview, he performs his other song, “The Roof is Leaking.” Phil dazzled the crowd and impressed Johnny with his incredible songs and performance. The former lead singer of ‘Genesis’ showed he has the stuff to be a solo artist on Johnny’s stage.
