Just taking Charley out for a walk… Is Charley a dog? Nope: a duckling!

Instead of viewing it as a chore, consider that taking the dog out for a morning walk is a great way to get some exercise and bond with your pet. But suppose your pet was a duckling?

People first domesticated ducks at least 4,000 years ago, and not just as farm animals. There’s a long history of people keeping ducks as pets, eccentric though that might sound. Ducklings, in particular, have a way of melting people’s hearts: there’s just something about a cute little bird with fluffy yellow feathers. Not surprisingly, ducklings are frequently encountered in children’s literature. And really, what bathtub is complete without a rubber duckie?

Charley is a duckling and about as adorable as they get. When his favorite human gets up in the morning, this little duck follows him around and, incredibly, joins him on his morning run! Nobody believed it, so Charley’s human dad had to make a video to prove it. We’ve posted it for you below.

Charley and his human dad start their workout correctly, with a warm-up. They do some brisk walking with a few brief bursts of running thrown in. As you’ll see, Charley is eager (and determined) to keep up. Now that the two of them are ready to go, it’s time for the main event. They pause briefly at one end of the driveway and then sprint off at full speed. It’s a bit like a plane taking off: the pilot guns the engines and then releases the brakes, sending the plane zooming on its way. Here, the one difference is that Charley can’t fly yet. Still, it’s ridiculously cute the way this duckling goes completely bonkers, happily chirping and doing his best to keep up with his human dad.
