The King Of Country Had His Queen By His Side, Every Step Of The Way. That’s True Love!

George Strait is known to many as ‘The King of Country’, and just a glance at his illustrious career makes it obvious why. He’s enjoyed chart-topping success for over 80 of his songs, and has been in the country music industry for well over thirty years.

Before George Strait was the King of anything, he’d already found his queen. George met Norma in his hometown just south of San Antonio, TX. The two went to highschool together, and dated throughout their school years.

But while it may have been love at first site, it definitely was boyfriend/girlfriend after their first date. The two took a long break after that first outing, and during that time George says he had an epiphany.

“Norma was the first girl I ever loved. We knew each other forever, growing up in a small town. I never really even thought anything about her, but then one day I asked her out and we went on a date. We didn’t see each other for a long time after that. Then one day, I thought, ‘I’m missing the boat here,’ and we started dating again.”

The couple eloped in Mexico in 1971, and shortly after that George enlisted in the Army. While stationed in Hawaii, he started performing with his first band, “Rambling Country”. That led to another band, and eventually to George’s solo work. And through it all he had Norma, supporting him at every turn.
