Knots Landing Is Known as One of the Best Soap Operas of All Time.

Knots Landing was an incredibly famous and beloved soap opera on CBS from December 27, 1979, to May 13, 1993.

A woman in a colorful dress stands between two men, one in a blue suit and the other in a gray suit, in a suburban setting.

As one of the longest-running primetime dramas in the country, if you lived during the 80s, there is no doubt that you watched at least a few episodes of the show.

But before it was considered one of the most popular shows on television, Knots Landing premiered on December 27, 1979, as a spin-off of the well-loved show Dallas.

Knots Landing was created by David Jacobs and produced by Michael Filerman. The show was meant to expose "family issues and examining relationships at the middle-class level." And it really did just that.

Although there were some wealthier characters, the idea was to portray real problems that real people were having (with a bit of extra drama for entertainment!)

And it's said that although Jacobs had a clear vision, the actors had far more say in the script and their characters than in others shows at the time.

Realistically, it was a cohesive creation from Jacobs, the actors themselves, and the two head writers, Bernard Lechowick and Lynn Marie Latham.

In the first episode of Knots Landing, newly remarried Gary and Val move to a cul-de-sac in a fictional suburb of Los Angeles called Seaview Circle.

The opening scene is the two arriving at their new home and dealing with the movers unpacking their belongings, and then they proceed to meet all of their new neighbors, who will eventually be the other main characters in the show.

Throughout the first season, many of the stars from Dallas make guest appearances on the show, therefore pulling in fans from the original series.

Although Knots Landing was not as immediately successful as Dallas was, the show actually surpassed its predecessor, running for 14 seasons, and gained immense popularity among audiences and critics alike.

The soap opera followed the lives of the residents of Seaview Circle and all their incredible drama. Throughout its 14 years on the air, the audience saw environmental issues, martial strife, assassination, murder, drug smuggling, and criminal investigations.

While some characters lasted the entire 344-episode run, some left for other programs, and various new roles were introduced along the way.

Of the many characters, there were many different favorites among fans. However, many people argue that Val and Abby were the best duos of the show.

But no matter who their favorites were, the audience of the 80s simply loved to watch the compelling characters of Knots Landing!

There have been several syndications of the show, and although it is no longer on cable television, it remains an absolute classic in the soap opera genre.
