Jimmy Kimmel had the night off but there was a good guest host in his chair: none other than singer, songwriter, guitarist and legendary drummer Dave Grohl. He interviewed actress Kristen Bell but they made it a bit surreal with their choice of costumes. He was done up to look like David Letterman (with beard) and you’d swear he really was the late night TV personality from Indiana. Her disguise was less convincing: Tom Selleck from the “Magnum P.I.” era, complete with glued-on mustache and chest hair!
Even celebrities have to make some effort to impress their own children. Grohl had an idea: “Me being here, with you, it’s the biggest deal to my kids. If I were to jam a song with you, I would become the coolest dad in the world.” Grohl was a drummer for Nirvana and later founded Foo Fighters. He’s a huge name in heavy metal, hard rock, and grunge. But the song he knew would impress his kids? “Do You Want to Make a Snowman” from Disney’s smash-hit movie “Frozen”!
This was fine with Bell. She may be better known for playing Veronica Mars in the TV series of the same name but as it happens, she was the voice of Princess Anna, the character who sang the song in the movie! She starts off with a standard version of “Do You Want to Make a Snowman” and her voice is lovely, even if her Tom Selleck looks don’t exactly suggest Princess Anna. Then Bell transitions to a very different interpretation of the song, with Anna gone heavy metal. Grohl really gets going with the drums and it’s easy to see (and hear) how he became such a tremendous star.
