In this performance, Tom Smothers plays guitar, and he sees a girl in a yellow shirt and says, ‘Stop the music!’ before comically realizing he is the one playing the music.

Tom calls her up on stage because she is playing with an interesting object, and he asks what it might be. She says, “This is a Jew’s harp here, and I played it like the comb or the spoons.”

Tom asks where she’s from because he thinks she dresses strangely with flowers in her hair. She giggles and responds, “Well, it’s really very natural in the Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco. The newspapers refer to it as flower land. That’s kinda weird, you know, it’s just cement, it’s just like L.A.”

She giggles and Tom laughs awkwardly. He asks how she got to the show, and she says she was hanging out, and a man gave her a ticket, and she went in.
Tom asks her if she has any mottos because she is a flower child. She says, “Oh wow, we have all kinds of them and everything. But I have a favorite one. It’s keep America green folks and grow oregano.”

Tom says, “I admire you and the thing that is happening very much because it’s all gentle, it’s peace, and it’s love is what they’re trying to present, and I admire you very much.” She responds in shock and gratitude

The woman says she would love to give him a gift and make him an honorary flower child. He says, “It must be love,” and smiles. The lady says, “No, it is something that helps all flowers grow tall.” She hands him a sack of fertilizer, and everyone laughs.
