‘The Golden Girls’ had great birthday moments. On Dorothy’s birthday, Rose takes her to a children’s restaurant. Dorothy’s face says it all, and as the clown host begins calling names to come on stage, Dorothy looks at Rose and says, “Please tell me you didn’t do this!” The clown, known as Mr. Haha, calls out Dorothy’s name, and she lunges for Rose, attempting to choke her.
Mr. Haha, the clown, reads off the ages of the two children on stage, but when he starts to announce Dorothy’s age, she says, “I’ll punch your heart out Haha!” Dorothy wants to smash her cake in Mr. Haha’s face, but his brother is a lawyer, so little Bobby comes over and does it for her, saying, “Happy Birthday Dorothy.”
For Rose’s birthday, Dorothy prepares her gift, and Blanche makes fun of it. Dorothy is confident that her gift is the best this year. Rose returns home, and Dorothy and Blanche begin competing for her affection. Dorothy puts her gift on Rose’s lap. Rose says, “Oh, a second-hand sweatshirt with my name misspelled on it.”
Dorothy corrects her, telling her it’s the original Mickey Mouse sweatshirt that Roy wore, and Rose freaks out. Blanche gives Rose her gift, which is a private detective service to follow Rose’s boyfriend around for two weeks. The bickering continues in this hilarious birthday battle.
Blanche’s birthday sees her protesting the very idea of celebrating getting older. She gives the girls a big speech about never bringing the subject up again and storms out. Rose immediately says, “I know. I’m going to give her a party!”
Rose gets a copy of Blanche’s birth certificate. The girls gather without her to find out her actual age. When they open the envelope, Rose reads it, saying, “Birthdate, deleted by order of the Governor.” Later, Blanche tells Rose that she will reveal her age as soon as Rose tells her weight. Rose says, “A hundred and nineteen,” and Blanche responds, “42,” and they get a coffee together, comfortable in each other’s fib.
On Sophia’s birthday, she keeps saying, “Give me my present!” Finally, Sophia says, “Gather around. My daughter is about to give me my big birthday surprise.” Blanche walks out with Sophia’s sister, Angela, from Sicily. The two exchange insults at each other, and the birthday surprise goes all wrong. These are the best birthday moments from ‘The Golden Girls.’
