Everyone loves ice cream, but it’s a hassle to make at home. There’s a lot of expensive equipment, and you have to plan ahead a couple of days to make sure your churning vessel is good and frozen before you even start. But what if I told you you can have homemade ice cream without the equipment in only 20 minutes?
If you’ve ever wanted to make ice cream at home but didn’t have a machine, you’re in luck. Youtuber EmmymadeinJapan tested out a homemade ice cream recipe that uses plastic bags to create a delicious frozen treat. The best part? It only takes 20 minutes and gives you a great workout to boot.
Put the ice in the gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Sprinkle the rock salt over the ice. Set aside. Pour the half and half, sugar and vanilla into the small pint-size bag along with the vanilla and sugar. You may want to premix this ice cream base before placing in the bag. Seal the bag tightly. It’s a good idea to double the plastic bag so there is no leakage. Place the small bag inside of the large bag. Shake in 5-minute increments, checking each time by squeezing the small bag. It should take between 10 and 20 minutes until the ice cream feels stiff enough to be spooned. Spoon ice cream into a bowl or enjoy right out of the bag.
