Legendary lead singer of ‘The Commodores’ Lionel Richie has had a career resurgence since joining ‘American Idol’ as a judge. Fans want more and more of Lionel’s music, and he is happy to oblige with a remastered HD version of his ’80s hit ‘Dancing on the Ceiling.’
The performance starts with Lionel and his bandmates pulling up in a red sports car. They get out and walk into a hotel while talking about how amazing the crowd was. Lionel says they should take their show on the road.
As the door to his hotel room opens, Lionel is shocked to see all the people waiting to celebrate with him. The crowd of choreographed dancers wears black, white, and silver outfits.
Lionel is wearing a red jacket and red pants. He walks up the wall sideways and ends up on the ceiling, high above the crowd. He sings the chorus lyrics, ‘Oh, what a feeling when we’re dancing on the ceiling!’
Lionel invites more of his party friends onto the ceiling. They crawl at first, but they begin dancing once they get their footing. Couples even do a bit of swing dancing while suspended on the roof.
There’s a disturbance in the hotel room above them as guest star ‘Cheech’ from the famous duo ‘Cheech and Chong’ makes an appearance. He goes downstairs to complain but can’t believe his eyes as a waiter pours wine upside down into a dancer’s glass.
Even Rodney Dangerfield joins the fun at the song’s end when he walks in on Lionel and his crew. He jokes, ‘Oh man, I shouldn’t have eaten that upside-down cake!’ Lionel Richie has had decades of success, and this ’80s throwback remastered in HD is one of his best tunes!
