Little Girl Raises $30k for Homeless Man Who Returned Grandma's Wallet

A man and a girl give thumbs up, both smiling, against a brick wall backdrop.

Sean Currey was searching in a dumpster behind a coffee shop for some food. What he found was nothing short of a Christmas miracle. A wallet.

The day before, Evelyn Topper had frequented Kamson Coffee for a latte and some boba tea for her granddaughter. She puts her wallet inside her jacket but never zips it up.

Once she got home, she realized her wallet was missing. Distraught, she called the coffee shop about her missing wallet. It contained all of her credit, debit, and Medicare cards.

When Sean Currey had found the wallet, no cash, just the cards, a friend had told him to use them. But even though he had been homeless for the last five years, he decided to phone it in.

Evelyn recalls that she just started screaming that it was a ‘Mitzvah,’ a good deed when she heard the good news. Sean had done something in good faith in the midst of what the year had been.

When Evelyn’s granddaughter, Mikayla Gounard, learned from the good act, she knew what she wanted to do in return. For her birthday, she had been asking for donations instead of gifts, but she had yet to select a cause.

On the day of the socially distant celebration, the guest drove by Mikayla’s house and saw a picture of Sean Currey and a basket for the donation. In the end, she got to raise $475 wish she dropped him off with her mother.
