Some stories are emotional tearjerkers, and this is one of them. Mockingbird Farm Animal Sanctuary is a place that takes in mostly farm animals from unfortunate cases of neglect and surrender. A horse named Gidget had lived isolated for over a decade or so. Her human was elderly and could not care for her anymore, so the horse came to the rescue at age 29. She was so happy when she came off the trailer, and her eyes lit up.
Gidget formed a friendship with a small horse named Peggy. Peggy had come from a situation of neglect. She was missing a bond with another animal. The two horses had stalls next to each other, and when they had come out of them, they would touch noses. The two of them were always together, spending time with each other. Gidget would purr when she saw Peg, and the two of them would run and play.
Gidget liked to stay close to Peggy and watch her frolic and run. Gidget was finally happy that she had made such an incredible connection. Gidget passed away at age 30 around Easter Sunday. They buried her in their beautiful garden. They had had Gidget on her 30th birthday, and they had thrown her a lovely party. The horses even wore little party hats. Gidget got to have green pastures and a best friend at the end of her life.
Many people do not believe that animals have emotions, but they are wrong. Peggy would sit by the stall where Gidget was and would not leave it. She was missing her terribly. Peggy is now doing better. No one can replace Gidget, but Peggy has made a new friend with a miniature pony named Bourbon, who comes to the rescue.
