For some of us camping involves a tent (which we hope won’t be blown away by the wind or ripped open by a bear) and if it isn’t raining, a campfire. If you want a more comfortable camping experience or would like to live life on the road, there’s the motorhome option. They range in size from something not much bigger than a van to a behemoth that’s more like a bus. With some clever design, it’s possible to get a surprising array of home-like amenities into a small space.
The folks at Mercedes Benz have come up with a downright decadent motorhome, sumptuous luxury on six wheels. Each “Vario Perfect 1200 Platinum” is custom made, largely by hand. It has a sophisticated suspension system to make the ride smooth, but it’s the interior that really stuns. There’s, of course, a comfortable chair and couch. The well-appointed kitchen has a full range of appliances, fancy countertops, a granite floor, and a bar table and dinette. When parked, there are sections that expand outward, to create a bit more interior space. That’s how they fit a king-sized bed in the bedroom! There’s a bathroom with shower and a heated floor. There’s no shortage of walnut trim and recessed LED lighting. Incredibly, there’s room in the back for a “garage” that can hold a sports car. No need to even tow the other set of wheels!
There is, of course, a catch. A Vario Perfect 1200 Platinum will set you back something north of $1 million dollars. As they say, you really do get what you pay for.
