The video below features a rare daytime footage of a wild elephant giving birth at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) in Chobi National Park, Botswana. It was recorded by Christian and Ginette Leroy. You have probably seen many animal births before, but none of them come close to this one! Wait till you see what this jaw-dropping video shares.
Mama elephant gave birth to her little calf in peace. But soon after the delivery, her happy herd joined in to celebrate the birth of their newest member. They are eager to protect and guard this tiny little guy as they gently lift him off the ground with their trunks. It is amazing to see how much love and support these beautiful creatures have amongst each other, isn’t it?
Baby elephants are like any other animal born in the wild in that they need to get up and get on their feet very soon after being born. This is part of their survival instinct. They have to be able to move with the herd. So the adult elephants teach the younger ones to get the baby up and moving as soon as possible.
In this clip, you see all the members of the herd trying to get the baby up and moving. He seems a little lethargic, but eventually he is on his feet. It’s amazing to watch how they work together.
