Imagine coming upon a wild animal that has been on the wrong side of a fight. What would you do? Well, if it were something like a bear on the ground, I think I’d be leaving as fast as possible since I wouldn’t want to be near anything that could beat a bear. But if it were small… say… a fox. What would you do? British man Mike Trawler was faced with that scenario and he decided to err on the side of kindness. He was well-rewarded, I think.
Mike found this fox outside, on the verge of death, after a fight with a dog. He even came down with toxoplasmosis, but managed to fight that off after Mike cared for him. He rewarded that kindness by forming a lifelong bond. He’s now living with his new daddy in his house and he has a name – Cropper. Now the two are the best of friends and I hope it stays that way for a long, long time.
Cropper clearly adores Mike. He naps on his chest when they are home and he rides on his shoulders for a bit when they go outside, almost like a mink stole. When they walk together, he’s always very close to his new daddy. They live in Kent, England, which seems like a more suburban part of the country. I can’t imagine them walking down the streets of London without getting a lot of stares from people.
It’s good that the two of them have bonded like this, but it’s a mixed bag when it comes to caring for wild animals. Cropper did imprint on Mike, but that’s not always the case. I wonder how the fox acts when other people are near. He probably goes into hiding. Then again, I could be wrong and he could love everybody that’s friends with Mike. We got to see a real rarity here – a domesticated fox.
What an incredible video. Isn’t Cropper so cute? Have you had any experiences with bringing a wild animal home? If so, tell us all about it in the comments section!
