The closest I have had with “nature” interacting with me was having a feral cat come up to me on my porch and letting me pet him. Sure, I’ve been in places like zoos where I’ve been able to see certain animals up close and personal. That’s in a controlled environment, though. The experiences people have had out in the open, where they are just out minding their own business… that’s really powerful. Like this video about a random encounter at sea.
James Gilkinson was sailing with his niece off the California coast when he saw something swimming toward his boat. It was a baby sea lion and within seconds, the lion was aboard and cuddling with him on his lap. It’s so adorable to see this occurring. I love it when nature interacts with us in unexpected ways. I guess this baby was just lonely and wanted some company, human or otherwise.
Gilkinson said he was “beside himself” the whole time. I think that’s an understatement. I would have just been sitting there going, “Oh man. Oh man. Oh man.” the whole time. It would have been amazing to be able to look into those sea lion eyes and pet him gently on his head. They stayed there for a bit but then Gilkinson indicated that they were going to leave and the pup headed to the back of the boat and jumped back into the water.
OK. This is one of my dream scenarios, being on a boat and having some kind of marine life choose to come visit me, be it a seal or sea lion, whale, any cute creature. I do NOT dream of Great White Sharks visiting me – those get filed into nightmare scenarios. Great. Because I wrote about it, I’ll probably dream of it tonight… OK, I’ll focus on the cute, cuddly sea lion. Also I won’t watch “Jaws” before going to bed.
Wasn’t that sea lion pup SO CUTE? I really don’t know what I would have done if that had occurred to me. What would you do? Tell us all about it in the comments section!
Be sure to share this video with all your friends on Facebook right now because it will give them a chuckle! This is too cute to pass up. Spread the joy!
