Joey Feek of the popular duo Joey+Rory passed away from cervical cancer recently. She battled courageously for as long as she could, until she knew it was time to stop fighting.
Throughout her illness, her husband Rory stayed candid with fans about her condition through their blog. However, Rory didn’t release pictures of his wife in her compromised condition until pretty late in the game.
Rory has always wanted to honor Joey in every way possible, and keeping those pictures private was one way he did that. In a blog post he made a few months before she passed he admitted to being fiercely protective of his wife.
Not only that, but Joey, like most women, was self conscious about her appearance. “Who she sees in the mirror these days looks like someone else…” he said, “not the woman that she feels like she is inside. And it hurts her deeply.”
When they decided to share more, it was spurred by the desire to help other people out there going through the same thing know they are not alone. Even in her final days, Joey hoped to be a source of strength and support for her fans.
