Some of the funniest segments of the Donny & Marie Osmond show were “The Perils of Marie” skits. This one called “Lost in the Woods” finds poor Marie tied to a tree.
She calls for help as a gallant Mountie passes by. In the Canadian uniform, Donny assumes a hilarious accent which Marie tries hard not to break character and laugh at.
He asks what she was doing in the woods. She replied that she was collecting nuts and berries while singing to the birds. He scolds her for singing in these forests.
He struts about telling her of all the perils of the woods, while she struggles against her bonds. By the looks of her situation, Donny guesses she was the victim of Naughty Ned.
Marie can’t help it and finally laughs at Donny’s ridiculous impression. He tries to stay in character but chuckles a little himself. At last, it seems as though he might actually untie Marie.
Instead, he takes her basket of gathered food and strides off to capture the villain. She looks at the camera, sighs, and pitifully cries “Help.” Then crossing her eyes, she lets loose a bloodcurdling scream.
Donny and Marie’s show was filled with hilarious comedy skits but no more so than “The Perils of Marie.” No matter how many times you watch this one, you’ll always end up laughing.
