Martina McBride & Darius Rucker Pay Tribute To Late Joey Feek At ACM Awards Show

The world lost an angel, and an amazing up and coming musician, when Joey Feek passed away after her battle with ovarian cancer last March. In honor of the late singer, the Academy of Country Music took some time out of it’s Awards show broadcast to commemorate her life.

Darius Rucker and Martina McBride paused in their presentation and asked the audience to give Joey Feek one last round of applause. The response was deafening, a fitting send off for Joey.

In attendance that night were Joey’s stepdaughter, Hopie, and Joey’s best friend, Julie Zamboldi. McBride made a point to single out these ladies with a simple “God bless them, and God bless you, Joey.”

Joey and her husband Rory first appeared on the country music radar when they competed in the Country Music Channels Can You Duet? talent show in 2008. Though the couple only finished third that season, they secured a space in the hearts of many fans.

“Cheater, Cheater”, their first single, hit the Billboard Top 40 chart, and earned the couple the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Vocal Duo or Group Award in 2010. They got another nomination this year for Vocal Duo of the Year.
