The loss of country music icon Merle Haggard has stunned everyone in the country music industry. The legendary artist passed away following an extended battle with double pneumonia, on his 79th birthday.
Throughout Haggard’s illness, his youngest son, Ben, has kept fans in the loop about his father’s struggles. Many times he has turned to those fans for support, and prayer.
Ben and his father were very close. They both shared the same passion for music, and Ben was quickly following in his father’s footsteps. He even played in Haggard’s band, The Strangers, for eight years.
After the news of Haggard’s passing broke into the media, Ben went to Instagram with a photo of him holding his father’s hand, and a message for Haggard’s supporters”
“A week ago dad told us he was gonna pass on his birthday, and he wasn’t wrong. A hour ago he took his last breath surrounded by family and friends. He loved everything about life and he loved that everyone of you gave him a chance with his music. He wasn’t just a country singer.. He was the best country singer that ever lived.”
