‘The Jackson 5’ quickly rose to fame behind young lead singer Michael. They performed on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’ in 1974 after they released their new Motown album titled, ‘Get It Together.’
The Jacksons stood on a brightly-lit stage with lightbulbs all over the back. There are musicians behind them, including a bongo player, a pianist, and a drummer. The Jackson 5 wore matching orange and brown suits.
Some members wear orange jackets and brown suit pants, and some wear brown jackets and orange suit pants. The five brothers stand in a straight line in front with mic stands, and the two older brothers on the end hold guitars.
They sing their own rendition of ‘Let It Be’ by ‘The Beatles.’ Michael takes his microphone from the stand and steps out to sing a solo. He holds out a long note, and the band starts to groove, and all the brothers sway in unison. Michael waves his hands and snaps as the other brothers sing background vocals for him. Micheal spins and ad-libs as the other Jacksons sing the chorus.
The Jackson 5 was founded in 1964 in Gary, Indiana, by Joe Jackson, the boys’ father. The group signed with Motown Records in 1968 and became the first group to debut four consecutive number-one hits.
Their first four hits were ‘I Want You Back,’ ‘ABC,’ ‘The Love You Save,’ and ‘I’ll Be There.’ They continued scoring hits into the ’80s with ‘Enjoy Yourself,’ ‘Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground),’ and ‘Can You Feel It.’
The group was one of American music’s most successful R&B acts, and Michael Jackson became the ‘King of Pop’ through the 80s and 90s. They knew they had achieved a new level of success when they appeared on the iconic ‘Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.’
